AN URGENT UNMET NEED: Cancer is the #1 Disease Killer in Children

Leaders from across the pediatric cancer ecosystem explain the urgent, critical need for new childhood cancer treatments, and how CureSearch is changing the odds for the 42 children diagnosed each day.

Our Impact on Children

We ONLY fund research with the greatest potential

We ONLY fund research
with the greatest potential

In the last 5 years, we’ve awarded more than $12M in research grants for projects dedicated to developing new therapies for kids with cancer. We’re focused on driving the most innovative new therapies towards clinical trials and regulatory approval to directly benefit children and families across the country. Simply put, if a project isn't on an accelerated path to new drug development, we don’t fund it.

Our unique strategy is delivering results

Our unique strategy is
delivering results

Our research funds groundbreaking, lifesaving treatments. Take CureSearch-funded investigator, Dr. Maria-Grazia Roncarolo, for example. She recently developed a novel cell therapy that avoids the grueling, toxic side effects experienced by most pediatric patients under standard care for Acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The hope of her research team is that this new therapy will dramatically reduce mortality and improve the long-term survival of pediatric AML patients.

Our projects move 7x faster

Our projects are 7x more likely to advance

60% of preclinical research projects funded through our Acceleration Initiative advance to clinical trials, compared to a less than 8% average rate. In addition, CureSearch-funded pre-clinical projects get there 1.5x faster compared to the national average. This accelerated research is quickly leading to breakthroughs, including:

A novel drug for Ewing sarcoma in pediatric clinical trials
Clinical trial for high-grade glioma in adolescents and young adults now enrolling patients
A novel treatment for recurrent, refractory medulloblastoma in pediatric clinical trials

We focus on areas of unmet need

We focus on areas

of unmet need

We are dedicated to ensuring that every child diagnosed with cancer has a safe and effective treatment option. A focus on pediatric cancers with insufficient or ineffective treatment options is critical, and it is a priority of our research strategy. Our unique funding strategy focuses on addressing areas of unmet need, including:

Cancers with the lowest survival rates

Limited or most damaging treatment options

Populations that are underserved, including adolescents and young adults

Together we are making an impact

It is our goal to protect the future of children diagnosed with cancer by delivering safer, more effective treatments. This can’t happen without your help. We thank you for your support in the fight against childhood cancer.

Unmatched Expert Leadership

Our Scientific and Industry Advisory Councils are comprised of experts at the top of their fields, and validation of a research project by our Scientific Review Committee speaks volumes in the global pediatric cancer arena.

Led by Brenda Weigel, MD, MSc
The Scientific Advisory Council includes leading pediatric oncologists who set the academic priorities for CureSearch research initiatives and evaluate projects on scientific merit.
Led by Jeffrey Skolnik, MD
The Industry Advisory Council includes leaders from the largest global oncology and biotechnology companies who champion pediatric cancer programs and review potential research projects for clinical and regulatory feasibility.
Led by Stephan Sallan, MD
Our Scientific Review Committee provides rigourous peer review of research proposals, evaluating: scientific merits, innovation, unmet need and clinical impacts.

"Our annual Jakefest events honor the memory of my son, Jake, who passed away after a heroic fight with rhabdomyosarcoma. Kiewit has partnered with CureSearch because they're uniquely positioned to accelerate the pace of finding new drugs for kids. Through the generosity of Kiewit's employees, their spouses, friends, relatives, and our gracious business partners, over $3,000,000 has been raised for CureSearch.
