CureSearch is proud to announce a partnership with Camp Quality USA, an organization dedicated to providing camping experiences for children with cancer during the 2014 CureSearch Walk season. This year, Camp Quality will be at 12 CureSearch Walks across the country participating with Camp Quality Walk teams, arts & crafts tables and teen tents.
Camp Quality USA in Illinois began their involvement with CureSearch at the Chicago CureSearch Walk four years ago. The organization was looking for another way to get involved in children's cancer awareness and research. When they found the Chicago CureSearch Walk, it sounded like a perfect match. They have had a team at the Walk every year since, and love seeing some of the campers at the Walk.
Camp Quality is an important organization to Chicago CureSearch Walk committee member, Rick. When his son, Kyle, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma when he was 10 years old, his parents were worried that he would miss out on many childhood experiences. Then Rick found out about Camp Quality and he knew that he had found the perfect place for Kyle.
Kyle continued to attend Camp Quality in Illinois every summer after he was done with treatment and looks forward to his time there. He has made some life-long friends at camp. "Kyle loves going to camp," explains Rick. "He gets to be a kid for a little and hang out with other kids who understand what he has been through. It's an amazing place."
As the director of the Illinois Camp Quality, Mary loves hearing kids talk about their time at camp. She got involved with Camp Quality because her father was on the organizing committee when she was younger. When she was 18, she became a companion and in 2004, she joined the organizing committee as treasurer and is now Executive Director. "I have met some amazing children and volunteers through Camp Quality," says Mary. "They have helped me learn about myself in a way that I never imagined. I can't picture my life without these kids." She loves that for a week, they get to forget all about cancer and just be kids.
"Similar to CureSearch, Camp Quality serves children, and their families, across the United States. They focus on the kids, and whether they're in-treatment or off-treatment, Camp Quality makes sure they have the opportunity to be a kid again. CureSearch is thrilled to partner with an amazing organization that brings happiness and hope to children with cancer," says National Director of Strategic Partnerships Kelli Wright.
