Wanda Nolen, RN Gears Up for Inaugural Houston Walk

During the past few years, CureSearch Walks have spread across the country - from Boston to Honolulu. The success of these Walks is often due to individuals dedicated not only to fighting children's cancer but also to recruiting walkers and coordinating event logistics. Wanda Nolen, RN, from University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center at the Children & Adolescent Center, has been instrumental in the inaugural CureSearch Walk - Houston serving as the Walk's committee chair.

When the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center was contacted about participating in the inaugural CureSearch Walk - Houston, Wanda expressed an interest in getting involved. She was an ideal choice to chair the event because of her incredible passion to eliminate children's cancer and her outstanding relationships with the patients she serves every day - The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Pediatric Division treats 2,000 children a year. Working with the other members of the Walk committee, they set ambitious goals for the event: to raise $40,000 and have 300 people participate.

Under Wanda's leadership, 21 teams are actively fundraising for the February 18th event, which will take place at the Downtown Aquarium at 8 am. In the last weeks before the Walk, the committee's priority is to reach their $40,000 goal. In order to get there, they would like to see at least 30 teams registered.

Reflecting on her experience working with CureSearch and her committee so far, Wanda says, "I am so proud to be a part of this event. CureSearch is such an awesome foundation and knowing that the money raised from this walk goes to research is very important to me. I plan to be involved for many years to come."
