Houston Walks For A Cure

A beautiful Saturday morning brought together hundreds of children’s cancer supporters for the Houston CureSearch Walk. Thirty teams raised $46,000 to help fund targeted and innovative research and celebrated their success with a morning of fun family activities including arts and crafts, a visit from Miss Harris County, and words of encouragement from Najat Draw, MD from MD Anderson before completing the 1 mile walk.

Top team, Team Bree raised $13,000 in honor of Bree Burke who was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in August of 2012 at the age of 5. This was their first year participating in the Houston CureSearch Walk and their passion has helped ensure that one day, every child will be guaranteed a cure.

The Houston CureSearch Walk was made possible with the help of dedicated volunteers like the national group, Sexy After 30. This organization motivates, uplifts, and empowers men and women over 30 who have experienced, or are currently facing adversity, through meaningful volunteer work. Houston-area members found the CureSearch Walk and thought that it would be the perfect event to share their passion with young children and their families who are affected by cancer. The CureSearch Walks would not be as successful without this amazing work of volunteers who helped with the morning logistics.

Throughout the morning, walkers were reminded of the incredible progress that has been made in children’s cancer research as well as how much that still needs to be done by the many survivors celebrated and lost ones honored.
