The 3rd annual Return to Recess at Helfaer Field brought the Milwaukee community together behind a common goal, to put an end to children's cancer. Six teams participated in a day long kickball tournament aimed to raise awareness and critical funds for children's cancer research. Their efforts were successful; the event raised $23,793 to help ensure that every child with cancer is guaranteed to return to recess.
At the center of the day was three-time Wilms tumor survivor, Hollyn. She and her family were on hand to meet players and bring hope to others battling cancer.
The event wasn't all serious though; kids enjoyed scrimmages in between tournament games and got to hang out with the Milwaukee Brewers racing sausages. At the end of the day, a winner had to be announced. After three games in a row, team Two Headed Monster were named champions. Although not everyone won there could only be one winner of the tournament, everyone involved walked away knowing that they made a difference in the lives of children battling cancer!
