The 4th annual Northern Virginia CureSearch Walk was held at the beautiful Fairfax Corner in Fairfax, Virginia. More than 1,000 Walkers enjoyed amazing entertainment from the Logan Kraft Band, Peter McCory's One Man Band, The Tuba Guy, and dancing by the Oakton High School Dance Team. Families also enjoyed balloon animals, face painting, cotton candy, and many other family friendly events. Jennifer Dean, MD from Children's National Medical Center shared some inspiring words with the crowd before inviting the 20 survivors in attendance to the stage to receive medals and be named CureSearch Champions. Walkers also remembered those who have not survived with a balloon release.
This year broke a record for the event as volunteers raised more than $160,000 to help fund innovative children's cancer research and shattered last year's totals by $30,000! With 43 teams in attendance, it was hard not to be moved by the energy in the crowd.
Walkers were joined by other members of the community, like the Fairfax Fire Department and local hospitals, who showed their spirit and support for the children in their lives who have been affected by cancer. After the Walk, participants celebrated their hard work in helping to advance treatment for children fighting cancer.
